Well I’m on a diet…
Often you’ll hear people asking why you are ordering a certain dish at a restaurant or not drinking on a night out and the answer is often met with ‘well I’m on a diet’. As a society we are so used to normalizing unhealthy eating habits and binge drinking/eating, this consistent overconsumption has left the uk with 25.9% of its residents as obese and a further 37.9% marked as overweight. This is totalling 63.8% in these unhealthy ranges. Due to this overconsumption being so mundane, when someone is trying to make healthier choices they are questioned and often linked to dieting.
No wonder dieting is seen as difficult and dull, when you don’t come from a health focused background, dieting is ostracizing you from your peers. Making your efforts all the more difficult and it almost becomes a race to get to the finish line so you can start partaking again. This mindset is very problematic because because actions and habits lead to results, it may take you a while to undo your progress but you can’t rush back into old habits without expecting to be in the same position.
It's not all doom and gloom and there is a balance to be found, dieting can be achieved on this balance and its a great way to diet. You aren’t overly pressuring your body for those fast results and you are learning and navigating everyday situations while having this health focused mindset. Stop viewing clean eating as a temporary while you are dieting, stop viewing exercise as a means to burn calories to aid your diet. Making smarter choices with food or increasing your exercise regime does not mean you have to be dieting, something I am absolutely loving at the moment is the rise I am seeing in exercise being a trend online. Obviously exercise is so much more than just a passing trend but the increase of people getting into exercise and encouraging and helping each other is doing wonders for reversing consistent diet culture. Food is your fuel for everything you do, exercise is the building blocks for longevity and allows you to live this life in a pain free and mobile body.
Clean eating doesn’t have to be basic and boring, the same way fast food can easily be packaged ready to go off the shelves or it can be some amazing extravagant meal. It does go both ways and if you don’t know how to spice up your meals to meet a balanced diet while enjoying the foods you’re eating. Drop me a message and I will direct you on where to go.
