Mixin’ it up
Mixin’ it up
So you’re into the gym but feeling a lack of motivation recently? You’re clearly not the only one, there has been a huge influx in runners and people participating in fitness events such as hyrox recently. This need for a switch up and a change in training has been calling people and it's important to not fight the resistance, exercise and fitness should carry you though your whole life. As humans we like routine but don’t want to be boxed into one path for our whole life, this goes for everything including mundane things such as career, house, environment and EXERCISE. I strongly encourage you to listen to your body's call for variety in order to keep things interesting, after all you’re only doing it your whole life! The danger of being afraid of change or trying something new could be the reason why you seem to have such extreme highs and lows in exercise frequency.
With all my fitness experience I can truly say that a programme that not only challenges your muscular development, evens out imbalances, makes you stronger in mundane activities, allows you to feel fitter and challenges your mind is so essential. After all, it's all well and good being strong but if you can't walk up a flight of stairs without being out of breath your health cannot be in that good of a place. Exercise is often used as a form of emotional relief and this is why different types of exercise to stimulate your mind and allow it to switch off is so important.
If you’re someone who exercises 3-4 times a week and you’re looking for a programme which incorporates all these things, try this split:
Monday: Full body workout & 15 minutes heavy static bike (HR 130-140bpm)
Tuesday: Long walk (10k steps minimum)
Wednesday: Full body workout
Thursday: Circuit training (x3 exercises x5 rounds - X2 - x 10 rounds total & x 6 exercises total with 1 minute of rest between rounds)
Friday: Rest day
Saturday: Full Body workout & 15 minutes ski erg/static bike rounds (1 min on 30 sec rest/alternating machine HR 130-140bpm)
Sunday: Long walk /or short run
